Opposite Ends of the Rainbow

One woman's quest for peace makes her flee from L.A. and a high-paying corporate position heading to the remoteness and wilderness of Alaska. However, on the way to Alaska, she changes her mind for some unknown reason other than the fact that she seems drawn to Montana and buys a bus ticket to Billings.

But while traveling on the Greyhound bus towards Montana she meets a friendly, eccentric, welfare recipient and sickly woman (Dorothy). Dorothy begs her to stay with her in Burley, Idaho . . . which Rachel does for three months experiencing a few life's lessons that may seem Oh! So familiar! to many. She also discovers she can write poetry.

But she's having strange night dreams in which she is still being mysteriously beckoned to Montana. She decides to leave Dorothy in the middle of the night, not wanting to create an emotional scene, or hurt Dorothy who she's become attached to. But, Dorothy wakes up as she's about to walk out the door.

It's a "buddy" piece (the two women, complete opposites), although Rachel has never had a close friend before Dorothy. It's also a heart-wrenching story about a mother and son, and the mystery surrounding the death of Rachel's mother. It's a chase story. Rachel's apprehenders are just a town behind her as she pulls out of Burley, Idaho on a Greyhound to Montana where she will be stunned with a truth that forever changes her life.
