On the day that Buck Owens (country music icon and owner of the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield) passed, I was reading about him that day in Bakersfield at "RUSSO'S BOOKSTORE" where I was having a booksigning. I was reminded of the good 'ol days back in the '50s when he and other country music legends appeared at the Blackboard Jungle in Bakersfield and had a local TV show (I was a teenager at the time) ... and then the good times I had spent in the '80s at the Palace seeing Buck perform and all the musicians he presented. During that era I was having a difficult time breaking away from a past love, and that day as I reminisced about Buck and days gone by, those memories flooded my mind. I wrote this piece as a reminder to me, and to give hope to others, and as a remembrance of a great music venue - I still stop by the Crystal Palace when I'm in Bakersfield.
